Here is a link to the transcript for the video clip that I showed in class last night, Race the Power of an Illusion Part 3: The House We Live In. We started watching at approximlatey the 30 minute mark. Many of you may be interested in watching the entire show (and the other 2 movies in the series): they are available from the Camosun library and are quite thought-provoking.
Next week I will briefly pick up on some of your comments about institutionalized racism in Canada with respect to First Nations reserves and the Indian Act. I currrenlty do not feel like I have enough background to lead a discussion about this in a class, but will be doing some reading and talking to various colleagues this week to bring some more information in for you guys. In the meantime, you might get a sense of the complexity of these issues by reading this article from last year about an innitiative by the Nisga’a to promote private land ownership. It’s an important topic, and I was pleased that so many of you were engaged in the discussions in class. More next week.
