Participant observation in the media

Many of you have heard about the recent state of emergency in Attawapiskat, a Cree-Ojibway communitycommunity on James Bay in Northern Ontario.  In ANTH 104 this term we will be considering this example in the complex discussion of race, but journalist Alexandra Shimo provides a good example of participant observation in this piece from the Globe and Mail.  She spent 4 months living on a James Bay reserve to get a more complete understanding of the key issues and the complex community dynamics.
