ANTH 104-005 students race assignment

I am posting this here and on the ANTH 104 page so that you guys can find it easily.  If you were unable to do the Everyday Racism assignment because the ap was broken, you may complete the assignment based on the movie we watched in class.  Here is the description of the assignment:

Please write a short paper (2 pages, double spaced, 12 point font) that defines and explains institutionalized racism.  Briefly summarize the example of race and the US housing industry to clearly make your point (ie. how did red lining racialize the US housing market, and what are the ongoing consequences of this?!)  How has this assignment helped you to understand the meaning of institutionalized racism?  Can you see how this concept is relevant in British Columbia today?  (For example, based on the Indian Act, indigenous Canadians living on reserves do not own the land that their homes sit on.  Historically neighbourhoods like Oak Bay here in Victoria had covenants restricting the sale of houses to people of Asian descent.  Sadly there are many other examples, such as the Chinese Head Tax, residential schools, the internment of Japanese British Columbians during WWII.   Can you apply what you have learned about institutionalized racism to our local context?)  Feel free to relate it to what is happening right now in Missouri if you have found this material helpful in thinking about these current events in a different way.

The movie has a useful website associated with it that you may want to take a look at.
