I thought you would like to see the reply that was sent in response to the donation that you decided to send to Action Against Hunger.  Our class donation will be matched by the Canadian Government, making an even bigger difference.  If I get a response from Woodwyn Farms and the Songhees food bank I will post them as well.  Happy holidays everyone!

Dear : Camosun College ANTH 204 students,

Thank you for your generous contribution of $100.00 to help typhoon victims in the Philippines. Currently over 13 million people have been affected by Typhoon Haiyan. The number of displaced people increased to 4.4 million.

As of this reporting period, there are still many areas un-assessed due to poor communication and inaccessibility. ACF has already started an assessment in Bohol, and is joining OCHA and other INGOs in Tacloban City. Another team is bound for Eastern Samar and another for Masbate. ACF is in contact with national agencies, as well as UN agencies, and is in coordination with different clusters and other relevant partners.

Five days after the typhoon, Action Against Hunger teams, mobilized since day one of the crisis, face problems with access: most infrastructure has been destroyed, the geographical constraints of the archipelago and security issues slowing the deployment of humanitarian aid.

Priority needs are on: water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), food, health, shelter (in all affected areas) and nutrition (particularly in Eastern Samar and Masbate). ACF is planning interventions in WASH, Food Security and Nutrition in the Provinces of Leyte, Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar and Masbate.
